Sunday Worship
Worship in a traditional style, with grand piano, organ, and choir, at 11:00 a.m. each Sunday in the sanctuary. A Biblical sermon, which calls for people to believe in Christ as savior and for believers to grow and share as Christians, is the centerpiece. Presbyterians have rich traditions of liturgy and music, and FPC draws upon these. We seek to celebrate and invite the presence of the Almighty God during worship. The children’s sermon and other moments in worship combine to create a unique and challenging worship experience. The service draws to a close at 12:00 p.m., as we go out to serve the Lord.

Choir
First Presbyterian has been blessed by a rich tradition of a talented Chancel Choir who sings a variety of styles of music each Sunday for Worship at 11:00 am. Practice is held weekly on Wednesdays at 7:30 pm, with a break in the summer time. The choir is led by our church musician, Chris Jones, who is a very talented pianist and the Artistic Director of our local community arts center, The Prizery. New members are always welcome to join us at any time!
Adult Sunday School
Presbyterians believe that education is an important and continuing part of faith, no matter your age. Sunday School is an integral part of this learning process. A variety of choices are offered here at First Presbyterian, including:
The Pastor’s class meets in the fellowship hall on Sunday mornings and is taught by multiple teachers (Jim Luedtke and Colter Wickemeyer). Have you experienced some confusion, uncertainty, bewilderment, etc. about how God behaves, especially in the Old Testament? If so, you are not alone! To address this problem, the fall Pastor’s Sunday School class begins on Sept 9th with a series entitled: Let’s Be Fair – A Balanced Approach to Understanding God. Together we’ll consider the other side of God, the side that often gets lost. You are invited to join us for a balanced approach. As you may suspect, he’s not the bad guy some people think he is. He is, in fact, the very God we know him to be: our loving Savior, our Lord and our God.
Children’s Sunday School
The children’s classes range from birth to high school age using the “We Believe” curriculum from Presbyterian Church (USA).
Summer Sunday School
From June through Labor Day, the children are divided into two classes. All adults meet together for Summer Sunday School and a number of facilitators lead a topical study.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School is held each summer for ages 4 year through 5th grade. Churches from the area join together for this week-long program.

Children’s Church
CHILDREN’S CHURCH is available during the worship service each Sunday for children pre-school through second grade. The children exit the 11:00 a.m. worship service following “Walks with Jesus,” a special story time. A Bible-based program which includes stories, activities and crafts is led by parents and other adults of the church.
A NURSERY is provided for the 10:00 Sunday School and 11:00 a.m. service, so that your infants and small children are taken care of while you worship. The nursery includes a welcoming play area and quiet room for naps.
Men’s Bible Study
Men of the Church meet on a weekly basis for fellowship and study every Thursday at 6:30 pm in the Philathea Room. This group coordinates special events for the congregation and ministers in the community in the form of the Handyman ministry. They have a desire that every man grow to his full potential as a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ. All men are welcome to be a part of this group.
Women’s Bible Study
We meet each Thursday at 10:30 am in the Philathea Room. We are studying first book of the Bible, Genesis. This study will last through spring, and we will be delving into several chapters each lesson. We have different facilitators lined up for the different lessons. The Bible is the only book we will be using with each week answering questions from the chapters that are being discussed. If you have any questions, contact Karen Henderson.

Christ Church of Southern VA
I’d like to add a section in the Services page that talks about the small church plant that we host. I sent a message to their elders asking for a service description for our site, but in the meantime, can you do a place holder section called “Christ Church of
Southern VA”?
